What is happening within the African Union, and what was the significance of the Mogadishu talks between the opposition and the Presidency?

In Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, sensitive meetings were held in recent days involving committees from the African Union, including experts, military officials, and politicians.

On 29 July, meetings will begin in Kampala between the Police and Military Chiefs of Somalia and the commanders of the countries that have troops deployed in Somalia.

On 30 July, the Ministers of Defence and Security of Somalia, along with their counterparts from those countries, will hold discussions.

On 31 July, the leaders of the countries contributing to AUSSOM and President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud will meet in Kampala, where they are expected to make an official decision regarding the future of the AUSSOM forces.

According to emerging reports, the Federal Government of Somalia has been highly interested in achieving at least an initial outcome from the recent dialogue between the government and the opposition. The aim is to present the African Union with evidence of a preliminary political agreement led by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and to avoid the political crisis currently surrounding Mogadishu.
